Three years ago I had the good fortune of becoming unexpectedly pregnant at 41, having started at 19, I was a little excited, and upset! I had my son on my 42nd birthday. He just weaned last year at 2 and 1/3, and like his sister just quit one day and didn't tell me it would be last! It was rather hard to say good-bye at this, unplanned beautiful experience I thought I was far past in my life. I am extremely close mentally and physically with all of my children, as they are with me. They are in college, high school, and home. They are very independent and bright children and have no "hang-ups". I know they will love and be happy, and lead very useful lives. I'd like to think that my nursing them until they were ready to stop, had everything to do with that.
An LLL Leader writes: I have had a number of calls where a mom goes away and then says her milk is dried up (what I call "vacation weaning.") I feel even for an older toddler this is traumatic, and unfortunately have seen it too much!
