I would love to see some info. included on the possible legal ramifications, legal rights, etc., of toddler nursing. Now that nursing is being addressed in the legislative arena, there are some implication for those of us nursing older children as well.
A good place to start is: Extended Breastfeeding and the Law, and Extended Breastfeeding and the Law 2, By Elizabeth N. Baldwin, Esq.
I recently read a letter to the editor here in Richmond discussing the issue of making breastfeeding specifically LEGAL in VA. She was a breastfeeding supporter, extended and tandem nurser who was AGAINST legislation, as she felt that saying breastfeeding was a civil right was to belittle it: to her breastfeeding is a HUMAN right, and there should not be legislation because making it legal implies a right to make it illegal, which she feels is the wrong perspective. For instance, you would not have a law that says you have the right to feed your baby or the right to breathe, etc, etc. Interesting point.
